New Benefit Item to support R.U.F.F. – Relying Upon Furry Friends

31141Through R.U.F.F. pups train with staff and inmate handlers at Houtzdale State Correctional Institution for 15-18 months. At the end of the training, all inmate handlers receive a Certificate of Recognition in Canine Training and Care. Program trainers make quarterly visits to the prison throughout the training process to check progress, address challenges, and support the handlers. During the training, Inmate handlers maintain a special journal regarding the puppy. The journal then accompanies the puppy home. This amazing idea opens the door to breaking the cycle of repeat offenders by offering them a marketable skill they can utilize when they leave the prison. We are honored to be part of creating a true win-win situation through raising pups in prison.
