Pet Spending Hits a Record High

Pet-SpendingOur four-legged friends are living high on the hog.

According to the American Pet Association (APPA), Americans spent nearly $56 Billion on their pets in 2013. The APPA National Pet Owners Survey found that 68% of U.S. Households own a pet – that’s 82.5 million homes. Although more households have a dog (56.7 million) than a cat (45.3 million), there are more cats than dogs (95.6 million and 83.3 million respectively). Pet lovers spend their money on more than just food and vet visits. Dog owners spend an average of $41 per year on toys and $65 on treats. Cat owners spend $23 on toys and $36 on treats.
